San Francisco Giants Prospects 2023

Overall Grade: B

What Farhan Zaidi has done in rebuilding the Giants system in a very short time is nothing short of remarkable. There are so many players in this system I really like that it was hard to cut down the list, though the team doesn’t yet have the number of premium prospects as a few other organizations.

GM A.J. Preller has never met a prospect he wasn’t willing to trade. What we’re left with following the Juan Soto deal is a farm system in shambles, and yet trust that the Padres will be able to rebuild the system again, as usual.

As most expected when GM Ben Cherington was hired, the Pirates farm system is coming around. Does it have enough firepower to make the Pirates a contender in the next few years? Iffy.

Dave Dombrowski is known for winning championships — but also leaving farm systems in a worse than he found them. The Phils could have fewer quality prospects than any system, and yet the quality of the top two pitchers could make us forget.

I don’t love this farm system, but it’s made strides this offseason as a result of trades. The number of premium prospects are lacking and the road back to competitiveness for the A’s will be long, but the depth does provide reason for hope.

It’s clear the Brewers value drafting and player development with a farm system that’s now as strong as it’s been in generations. The strength of the outfielders leading the system on top of Milwaukee’s MLB pitching could keep the franchise in playoff contention for years to come.
