San Francisco Giants Prospects 2023

Overall Grade: B

What Farhan Zaidi has done in rebuilding the Giants system in a very short time is nothing short of remarkable. There are so many players in this system I really like that it was hard to cut down the list, though the team doesn’t yet have the number of premium prospects as a few other organizations.

San Diego Padres Prospects 2023

Overall Grade: F

GM A.J. Preller has never met a prospect he wasn’t willing to trade. What we’re left with following the Juan Soto deal is a farm system in shambles, and yet trust that the Padres will be able to rebuild the system again, as usual.

Pittsburgh Pirates Prospects 2023

Overall Grade: B-

As most expected when GM Ben Cherington was hired, the Pirates farm system is coming around. Does it have enough firepower to make the Pirates a contender in the next few years? Iffy.

Philadelphia Phillies Prospects 2023

Overall Grade: D+

Dave Dombrowski is known for winning championships — but also leaving farm systems in a worse than he found them. The Phils could have fewer quality prospects than any system, and yet the quality of the top two pitchers could make us forget.

Oakland Athletics Prospects 2023

Overall Grade: B

I don’t love this farm system, but it’s made strides this offseason as a result of trades. The number of premium prospects are lacking and the road back to competitiveness for the A’s will be long, but the depth does provide reason for hope.

New York Yankees Prospects 2023

Overall Grade: B+

If you’re a baseball fan, hearing about the Yankees farm system is inescapable. To their credit, the system has been worthy of mention in recent years, even if the luster for a few of the current top prospects outshines reality.

New York Mets Prospects 2023

Overall Grade: B-

New York’s system is likely to drop off considerably next year after some pending graduations, but it’s strong with some potentially premium players at the top. The top two players also have clear paths to make big fantasy impacts in 2023 😉

Minnesota Twins Prospects 2023

Milwaukee Brewers Prospects 2023

Overall Grade: B+

It’s clear the Brewers value drafting and player development with a farm system that’s now as strong as it’s been in generations. The strength of the outfielders leading the system on top of Milwaukee’s MLB pitching could keep the franchise in playoff contention for years to come.

Miami Marlins Prospects 2023

Overall Grade: D

Miami is in a poor state, both at the MLB level and down on the farm. Their top starting pitching prospects could be game changers, but what the organization really needs is more hitting. Is another transformative challenge trade like we saw when the former front office traded Zac Gallen for Jazz Chisholm in store?
